I get asked about how to make a new business a lot, so I wanted to post some resources for your journey to entrepreneurship. Sharing is caring!
– See if your state has its own Corporation Commission to create your business instead of using a more expensive service like “Legal Zoom.”
– Research the differences between an LLC, or Sole Proprietorship, etc. Find what works for you!
– Sign up for an “Employer Identification Number” to use for your taxes, tax deductions, and buying supplies wholesale.
– Arizona has a “Transaction Privilege Tax” that offers a lower tax rate depending on where you live and what kind of business you have. Ask your art supplier if they offer a TPT form. Once you have your number you can use this form with a vendor/supplier.
– Starting in 2020 the IRS now wants artists to use a 1099-NEC instead of a 1099- MISC.
